WILLEMSTAD – The year 2016 was a good one for the Asset Recovery Team. They seized a total of 1,756,180 guilders in goods.
This was presented in the annual report 2016 of the Public Prosecution (OM). “Seizing criminal money is an important part in the fight against organized crime. Money is the driving force, the motive for virtually all crimes,” says the OM in their report.
Confiscating these goods hits the criminals in a place that hurts them, namely in their wallet. Through this approach, suspects do not benefit from their actions. This also makes it clear that crime does not pay.
Visibly confiscating their assets touches the image of the untouchable criminal. In addition, it is important to prevent criminal gains from being reinvested.
